Energy Union Vice-president tackles the smart grids topic

In preparation to the development of the Energy Union by the European Commission, Energy Union vice-president Maroš Šefčovič went to Dunkirk to promote the Third Energy Package during the EU Dialogue on energy, on October 8th 2015. Minister of Energy, Sustainable Development and Ecology Ségolène Royal was present as well, through a full-duplex system.

Maroš Šefčovič talked about the importance of smart grids for the Europe of the future: he insisted on the essential role of renewable energies, which would in the process of the energy transition force the transformation of current energy grids into smart grids. It is necessary to understand the new behaviour of the energy consumer, who will, by tomorrow, manage his energy consumption via his smartphone and will need interactive grids.

Šefcovic also announced that the Energy Union planned to develop smart grids and smart houses.

During the debate, the topics of energy efficiency and security of energy supply were talked about at length.

The members of the ThinkSmartgrids association were in attendance and joined in the debate.
